Event Caricaturing is BACK people! No, I’m not crazy. At most a tad optimistic but hey, you would be if it was your main crust of employment.
As long as there is no disappointing viral backslide causing the lockdown roadmap to go awry, I should have some juicy caricaturing gigs this Summer, and in honour of that I thought I’d elucidate what I usually do (for those who don’t know what I do).
EVENT WHAT
I am a quickfire caricaturist, a rapid sketch-artist, an inky penslinger who can draw a cartoon likeness of you before you finish your cocktail. I station myself or roam around at the event you happen to be at and proffer my services to which you will out of curiosity say ‘YES’. I then ready my clipboard, A4 paper and pens and try to capture the hilarity within your features while also maintaining some sensitivity. Not everyone likes being depicted with a huge nose so I try to be sensitive to that. Caricatures don’t have to all be grotesque, but they do have to make you happy!
Once I done drawing you and/or your friends I hand you the caricature in a plastic sleeve(a handy receptacle I use after having seen too many unfortunate caricatures with wine on them over the years!) and you and
your friends and family can gawp in wonder at it, secretly cursing me when I’m gone!(joking).
EVENT WHEN
Wedding receptions aren’t the only gatherings that benefit from having a caricaturist draw your guests. I’ve caricatured at press junkets, corporate away days, corporate teambuilding days, Birthday parties, Leaving parties, Anniversaries, Children’s Birthday Parties, Festivals, plain old regular parties, University leavers parties, Christmas markets, School fetes, Work Christmas parties, Bar Mitzvahs, and DEFINETLY more that I can’t remember. I once drew a caricature of a couple as a way for the guy to propose to his girlfriend(I drew him with a ring!). And yes, I even drew a caricature for a funeral!
It’s my opinion, though it benefits me to say it, that no event would’nt be improved by the addition of a caricaturist providing hand-drawn party favours to your guests to warm them right up.
EVENT WHY
Why get a caricature from me at an event? Well flash forward ten years and you’re in your living room. You glance up at a caricature of you and your wife on your wedding day.
It makes you smile. It’s silly but that’s what you guys are like(it’s true, I met you). Now imagine you’re going through your papers and you find the caricature I drew of you and your pals on the last day of Uni.
It’s lovely to see that group together and having a laugh on one of the few days you spent all together. Sentimental innit!
Imagine you’re in the bathroom shaving and you see that funny portrait of your mum from the corner of your eye and smile. My caricatures are fun but they are also a special momento of a place in time.
