Presenting….Cartoon Rihanna! To continue my Icons series (cartoon portraits of musical legends old and new), here’s my version of Rihanna in yellow, pink and blue.
As I mentioned before, being a fast caricaturist in non-apocalypse times I’m used to drawing fast and live, so I thought for my Icons print series it’d be interesting to cartoon sloooooooowly, or at least comparatively slowly for my standards. These prints are taking approximately a week of stolen moments between other commissions, making stupid tiktok videos and looking after the baby, and I’m hopefully going to finish the series before what’s sure to be an avalanche of events and social engagements this summer! Let’s hope we don’t die of alcohol poisoning!(joke).
The hope is that I can chuck these all on Etsy once I’ve got a good collection of illustrations and sell them as prints, but we’ll see what the hunger is for musical icons in mad colours.
For this Rihanna cartoon I really wanted to capture some of her attitude and once I found the photo I used for this portrait I thought the hair would be a perfect element to accentuate and have fun with.
Again the pens I used here were PC.8Ks and (huge)PC.17Ks, uni pin lack fineliners and scratchy-nibbed white PC.1Ms for the highlights.
In other news I have my first caricature corporate event of the year(!) this coming Tuesday in a secret location for secret purposes. Wish me luck! Here’s hoping that this heralds a cascade of event bookings as weddings, corporate events and parties come back on the scene. Here’s hoping, for my muso buddies too.
What do you guys think my next ‘Icon’ should be?
Aaaannd, what’s your favourite Rihanna song? Mine is ‘Bitch better have my money’. It’s a great song to sing to yourself when clients take their sweet time to pay up!
